On Franciscan Values

Franciscan Values
This article, developed by Fr. Tom Nairn, OFM, Minister Provincial of the Sacred Heart and Senior Director of Ethics, Catholic Health Association, highlights eight values of Franciscan culture. These values are used by the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) to guide their actions and decision making. These values are also reflected in many of our ministries, can you think of some examples?

From the Commission on the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition (CFIT)

Don’t let the name scare you off! CFIT was “established in 2001 by the English-Speaking Conference of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM) to promote a contemporary retrieval of the distinctive theological and spiritual vision that animates the Franciscan movement.”
As Franciscans, we believe that we have an alternative, positive and transforming worldview. It is a worldview many are attracted to and want to know more about. That is where CFIT comes in. Enjoy these articles on what Franciscan Spirituality looks like in our contemporary world.

On Justice and Peace

Franciscans for Justice

http://www.franciscansforjustice.org

We seek to animate justice, peace and care for creation in ourselves, the Church and in the broader society. In the Franciscan tradition, animation is a form of leadership that stresses the power of good example and encouragement. This approach respects and supports others who share our values in living out their calling. We seek not to prescribe what others should do, but to understand and strengthen in every human life prayer, lifestyle, service, preaching and advocacy which for some are the concrete expressions of the love of God.

Franciscans for Justice is a joint project of the O.F.M. Franciscan Friars of the St. Barbara Province and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Province. Franciscan Friars are a Roman Catholic religious community called and committed to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the prophetic spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. We work with others to promote justice, peace and care for creation, in our times.
